New & returning highlights in Lorwyn Eclipsed

  • Borderless reversible shocklands: a cycle of five shocklands with two pieces of art each – one Lorwyn side and one Shadowmoor side. Mechanically identical to their known versions, but with double-sided showcase styling. Found in Play & Collector Boosters.
  • Fable Frame: a new showcase frame that looks like an illustrated storybook. A total of 10 uncommons, 26 rares, and 14 mythics use this design, again in Play & Collector Boosters.
  • Double-faced transformation cards: many creatures and permanents literally flip between light (Lorwyn) and shadow (Shadowmoor) – mirroring the story around the accelerated day/night cycle.
  • Return of Evoke & strong tribal themes: elementals with Evoke and classics like Kithkin, Merfolk, Goblins, and Faeries return to centre stage and get modern toys and synergies.

Examples & highlights (with where to find them & short analysis)

Bitterbloom Bearer — Showcase Fable Frame (ECL #310)

Bitterbloom Bearer — Fable Frame & serialized version

Found in: Regular & Fable Frame versions in Play & Collector Boosters; the numbered, serialized borderless version only in Collector Boosters. → To the Collector Booster Display

Mana cost / type: {B}{B} — Creature — Faerie Rogue

Short rules text (simplified): Flash, flying. At the beginning of your upkeep, you lose 1 life and create a 1/1 Faerie token (very similar to Bitterblossom on a creature).

Analysis: This card combines a recurring token engine with a cheap, reactive body. In Faerie or general token strategies it provides a steady stream of attackers and sacrifice fodder and works nicely with anthem effects and “Faerie matters” cards from the original Lorwyn era.

Hallowed Fountain — Lorwyn side (Borderless Reversible, ECL #347)
Hallowed Fountain — Shadowmoor side (Borderless Reversible, ECL #347)

Hallowed Fountain — borderless reversible shockland

Found in: Play Booster & Collector Booster (foil and non-foil). → Play Booster Display | Collector

Type: Land — Plains Island

Short text: Enters the battlefield tapped unless you pay 2 life. Taps for {W} or {U}.

Analysis: A classic shockland with brand-new, double-sided borderless artwork. It remains one of the best Azorius lands for Modern, Pioneer, and Commander. In Lorwyn Eclipsed, the reversible version is also a visual showpiece, capturing both the bright Lorwyn and the darker Shadowmoor feel.

Mutable Explorer — Fable Frame (ECL #327)

Mutable Explorer — Fable Frame

Found in: Play Boosters & Collector Boosters (non-foil & foil). → To the Play Booster Display

Mana cost / type: {2}{G} — Creature — Shapeshifter (1/1)

Short text: Changeling (is every creature type). When it enters the battlefield, you create a tapped Mutavault token that can become a 2/2 creature with all creature types.

Analysis: A modern love letter to Mutavault and the Changeling theme from original Lorwyn. Explorer gives you two bodies and a land that shines both in tribal and land-focused shells. In Commander it’s very attractive for tribal “piles” like Elves, Merfolk, or Faeries because it easily slots into any of them.

Ashling, Rekindled — front (ECL #290)
Ashling, Rimebound — back (ECL #290)

Ashling, Rekindled // Ashling, Rimebound

Found in: Primarily as the commander in the deck Dance of the Elements (Lorwyn Eclipsed Commander Deck). Single copies may also appear in Collector Boosters with Booster Fun treatments. → To the Commander Decks

Mana cost / type (front): {1}{R} — Legendary Creature — Elemental Sorcerer (1/3)

Short text (front, simplified): Whenever Ashling enters the battlefield or transforms to this side, you may discard a card, then draw a card. At the beginning of your first main phase, you may pay {U} to transform her.

Type (back): Legendary Creature — Elemental Wizard (1/3)

Short text (back, simplified): Whenever she transforms to this side or at the beginning of your first main phase, you add two mana of one color that can only be spent on spells with mana value 4 or greater. You can pay mana again to transform her back.

Analysis: Ashling leans fully into Lorwyn Eclipsed’s “two faces” theme: the front filters your hand and fills the graveyard, while the back rewards you with extra mana for big spells. In Commander she’s an excellent fit for Izzet control or spellslinger decks that want both card selection and ramp coming directly from the command zone.

Tip: If you primarily want to draft, pick the Play Booster Display or the Draft Night Bundle. For focused hunting of showcase cards, reversible shocklands, and the serialized Bitterbloom Bearer, the Collector Booster Display is your best bet. The Commander Decks are the most convenient way to jump into the format.
